Tower Farm yield
To make a Tower Farm cultivation profitable, it is important to focus on high-value crops such as leafy vegetables, herbs, and medicinal plants.
Focus on profitability per square meter!
Although our technology and nutrients allow for the cultivation of over 200 different varieties, some crops are much more profitable than others, and it is important to focus on profitability per square meter.
To optimize space and add more towers within the available area, leafy vegetables and herbs are a wise first choice, as they do not exceed the diameter of the reservoir in terms of space required for their development during growth to maturity.
Crops such as cucumbers, tomatoes, or other squashes require additional sturdy structures for support, which can be counterproductive if space is limited. Therefore, it is recommended not to cultivate beans, cucumbers, or tomatoes in limited space as they will take up all available space and prevent the installation of more towers.
Regardless of the geographical location, commercial greenhouse cultivation is ideal.
The two main objectives of a Tower Farm in a controlled environment are to optimize floor space and reduce water consumption. For the cultivation of leafy vegetables and herbs, aeroponic towers are among the best options.
No other agricultural method can boast such high yields and good organoleptic properties for each crop. Studies have shown that aeroponic tower cultivation is nutritionally more beneficial than conventional farming, thanks to the high levels of antioxidants and phenolic properties.
What does crop yield depend on?
Crop yield depends on the variety, climatic conditions, and seed germination rate.
Under good growing conditions, lettuces, herbs, and other leafy vegetables can yield an average of 100 to 175 grams per plant, with a growth cycle of 21 to 28 days.
The yields of fruiting vegetables such as cucumbers or tomatoes vary depending on the variety and season. As an example, the average yields per crop obtained over the years are as follows:
- Cherry tomatoes: a maximum of 12 to 15 plants per tower = 9 to 18 kg per plant depending on the variety.
- Round tomatoes: a maximum of 12 to 15 plants per tower = 18 to 22 kg per plant depending on the variety.
- Cucumbers: a maximum of 15 to 20 plants per tower. A cucumber can weigh between 100g (sometimes less) and 250g.
We can harvest approximately 15 to 30 cucumbers per plant. Some varieties are much more productive, such as lemon cucumbers, for example. - Strawberries: 52 plants per tower. Depending on the varieties, yields can range from 100g to 1kg per plant.
