Optimizing Water Management
At Cultive, in our aeroponic farm (or Tower Farm) in the Southwest of France, we have made the choice to maximize the use of rainwater for our crops and auxiliary buildings.
We have built a 17m3 concrete tank, which is equivalent to 17,000 liters. It’s important to note that the water reservoir of a tower ranges between 45 and 75 liters. Since the quality of our crops depends on the quality of our water, we have added a 2-stage water filtration system with an optimal flow rate of 800L/hour for filling our towers.
Our system is equipped with activated carbon filters made from coconut fiber, which have a high absorption capacity and are environmentally friendly. They eliminate 99% of chlorine, herbicides, pesticides, volatile organic compounds, and reduce sediments larger than 5 microns instantly.
Rainwater Harvesting in a Concrete Tank
The construction of a concrete tank for rainwater harvesting offers numerous advantages, including:
Rainwater harvesting helps save water and money by utilizing non-potable water for activities that don’t require drinking water. This can lead to a reduction in water bills.
Rainwater harvesting reduces the environmental impact by limiting the amount of water used for domestic activities and contributes to preserving natural resources.
Rainwater harvesting tanks can also help reduce the risk of flooding by preventing rainwater from accumulating in streets and drainage systems.
Rainwater is naturally soft and free from chemicals, making it ideal for plants and gardens. We are not claiming that rainwater is completely pollution-free, but it is less polluted than the majority of water found in nature. Using rainwater for irrigation can contribute to improving soil quality and plant health.
Concrete tanks are durable and resilient, lasting for years with minimal maintenance. Concrete tanks can also be used for other purposes such as firefighting water storage or emergency irrigation.
In summary, the construction of a concrete tank for rainwater harvesting is an excellent solution for water conservation, reducing environmental impact, improving water quality, and protecting your property against the risk of flooding.
