A Solar-Powered Tower Farm?
At Cultive, in our aeroponic farm (or Tower Farm) in the Southwest of France, we have made the choice to maximize the use of solar energy to power our crops and auxiliary buildings.
A key component for a Tower Farm/Tower Garden®: the submersible pump
Each of our towers is equipped with an individual submersible pump. This pump is a key element in the operation of our Tower Farm/Tower Garden®. By distributing water and nutrient solution throughout the unit, it allows plants to grow without the need for soil. This small, low-power submersible pump circulates the nutrient solution throughout the tower. Each Tower Garden® cultivation system is equipped with a pump. This pump has a power rating of 23 watts at 230-240V/50Hz.
Installation of 2 solar panels
Therefore, we have installed 2 French-designed (local for us) and manufactured solar panels. The use of solar panels for our aeroponic farm offers several ecological and economic advantages.
Firstly, solar panels utilize a renewable and clean energy source, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions. Moreover, solar panels can be installed directly near our towers, reducing energy transportation costs and eliminating the need for additional infrastructure.
Furthermore, the use of solar panels can help reduce operating costs for a farm as they provide a stable and reliable energy source. Solar panels are also easy to maintain and have a lifespan of over 25 years, making them cost-effective in the long run.
Finally, the use of solar panels can enhance the sustainability and positive environmental impact of a tower farm. Solar-powered towers contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of agriculture by minimizing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting the use of sustainable farming practices.
Additionally, solar energy utilization can help preserve natural resources by reducing fossil fuel consumption and promoting responsible water resource usage.
In summary, the use of solar panels for a tower can offer numerous benefits, including reduced operating costs, strengthened sustainability and positive environmental impact, and the utilization of a renewable and clean energy source.
